Here's A Crazy One for You - Kobe Hylton is in the Transfer Portal

STILLWATER – Kobe Hylton thought he had played his last college football in Boulder, Colo. on the day after Thanksgiving when Oklahoma State was smoked 52-0. In that game the safety transfer from UTEP finish his only season as an Oklahoma State Cowboy with one unassisted tackle in the loss. On the season, Hylton had 40 tackles, 31 unassisted, one tackle-for-loss, one interception, and two passes defended. He played in all 12 games and started eight games.

The 6-0, 195 pound safety out of South Gwinnett, Ga. started his college football career in 2019 at Long Island University. He started in two games and played in eight games for the Sharks. Then in 2020 transferred to NEO A&M J.C. where he played in six games and drew some attention from the four-year schools.

Kobe Hylton

It is that one season at NEO A&M that gives hm back a year as a recent legal battle has resulted in junior college playing experience not counting against NCAA eligibility.

Hylton redshirted in 2021 at Louisiana-Lafayette. he then transferred to Texas-El Paso and started two seasons for the Miners at safety.

Now, thanks to the junior college ruling, Hylton is in the transfer portal and looking at another season. There is a question to whether Hylton does qualify for the extra season. That is for the rules people at the NCAA an any member intitutions that would be interested. He told me he’s already been contacted.

“Yes sir, I’ve heard from several schools and schools that I would be interested in,” Hylton said.

He told me he had not been contacted by Oklahoma State, but would be open to talking to the Cowboys about spending another season in Stillwater.

This is like pro athletes that "retire" years after they stopped playing. They announce their retirement but in reality there were no offers/teams signing them. There will be many kids in the portal that are "retired" they just don't know it yet.

I think this one is more like my football career was over but somehow I got an extra year and teams are throwing money around like crazy before possible changes in July so let's see if a team will give me six figures to be a backup…much more than he would likely make at most any other job as a recent grad.

Not really hurting about anyone from that 2024 defense hopping in the portal.

Not sure how many of us thought or cared that he had any eligibility left.

some of you guys are unnecessarily brutal. He could end up a Cowboy fan for life, regardless of his decision.

Some compassion for the kids, and less about your personal feelings. Please.

If you hadn't thought or cared, then the shame is on you or us, not on his decision.

Why has society become so cold hearted?

Happy new year old roughy, from a retired calf roper.
