STILLWATER – Welcome to the jigsaw puzzle that is Oklahoma State football and is roster management for most of Division I football. The last month has been an exercise in managing graduations, transfer portal departures, early NFL entries, and the needs in recruiting and transfer portal recruiting. This will be updated as the semester begins and the spring roster is finalized. Linebacker Gabe Brown is in the transfer portal now.

Thanks Robert. Interesting to see an outline of possible roster and depth even if it's somewhat just your best guesstimate at this point.

A fun list. It's going to be exciting to see how the kids compete and the cream rise to the top. I'm excited

I understand it's not an easy exercise, but with all the "or"s in the depth chart, it's really not very informative.

I'd be shocked if we the fans are anywhere close to understanding a materially correct depth chart before the first game.

Thanks for the update… this took a lot of work to put together…

That's the challenge of a way-too-early. But I believe the order of the ors is fairly important. Obviously, not a guarantee though. We'll have a much better idea of our way-too-early a few weeks into spring football.

Well, most of the "or"s are alphabetical. Maybe coincidence.

Hahaha was hoping you'd catch that. But in all seriousness, definitely have a better idea once we get to winter workouts and seeing the guys out on the field, then a few weeks into spring football. I'm excited to see what this coaching staff has put together, as well as excited to see how this new coaching staff looks.

I just hope the top line on the depth chart is made up primarily of players that have yet to take a snap for the Pokes.

I think you'll see a good amount of newcomers starting this fall. But I also think you'll see some returners on the defensive side of the ball. Some of those younger guys really stepped up, but just need more experience. It'll be fun to see how they put it all together. Excited for spring football.

Thanks, that was very informative.

I was hoping to see something exactly like this - by position. It's great to see the people and the numbers that we have at each position. Now the competition process begins, and the teaching of the 2 new coordinators alignments and schemes.

It seems very worrisome to me that we only have 3 kickers total. Only one punter? Is that going to be it for those positions, or are we still trying to add another?

Personally, I hope we do see of lot of the offensive guys that have taken snaps for the Pokes.... QB Smith, RB Fields, TE Ford, OL Kawicki, OL Dotson, Slot Freeman (just to name a few off the top of my head)

Nothing against the new guys, but it hardly seems appropriate to throw everybody under the bus.

Here is my list for offense only.... for our first game..not a two-deep.
D is less clear:

QB - Rangel
RB- Hicks
X - King
TE FORD
SLOT. Freeman
Z - Shettron

RT - McKinney
RG - Kawaeki - spelling is wrong
C - Carpenter
LG- Dotson
LT - juco player Brumfield, something like that..

I am probably wrong on most of my guesses. But like most of you, I am excited to see what
happens.

There will be a punter added. In an emergency Logan Ward can punt and Wes Pahl has been a kicker and still kicks off some for Oklahoma State.

As for guys that have played here vs. the new guys. I want to see as I'm sure the coaches do too, lots of competition. It doesn't matter who wins the jobs across the board on the depth chart. The key is having competition in as many positions and places as possible. Competition makes everybody better. This team needs to get a lot better. I know the goal in the portal and in recruiting was to get players into the program to compete.

I know somebody above said this was less informative because of the "ors" and that makes it less definitive. Not all the positions were done alphabetically and there are some where it isn't as "or" as others. The entire depth chart is very fluid. The new coaches need to see all the players, returners and new additions. I hope there are no passes on places within the depth chart. My hope is all are competed for and earned.

Robert, I was talking to someone about NIL and realize any savings could be minimal but possibly could pay for a player or two. If we settled on one uniform home and away could there be enough savings in expenses to buy a player or two? Are there any expenses for multiple helmets, jerseys, and pants or does Nike provide them in exchange for our advertising their products? If so, that would seem to be an expense we could transfer to player acquisition. Just curious about that arrangement.

The uniforms contract is set and so it the helmet contract. Besides, the different looks is one of the things that helps recruit players beyond the MONEY, which is most important. I don't think you can get away from doing things in a Power Four school mode to try to buy an extra player. Besides the school can't pay that money direct until the House vs. NCAA suit is officially settled in April.

I agree with something Zach said above. The younger players on defense, last year's freshman class in particular have me excited.

Armstrong Nnodim
Jonathan Agumadu
Temerrick Johnson
Luke Webb
David Kabongo
Landyn Cleveland
Jacobi Oliphant Jr.
LaDainian Fields

A lot of unfamiliar names. How did we get here? Can we improve to 4-8?

I believe it has a whole lot to do with our Cowboy cycle, where ever few years we are able to accumulate a heavily senior laden team, usually followed by a downturn the following year as those out of eligibility or headed to the NFL move on. This past year we had a passel of OL guys using their Covid 6th year, and they were off-scholarship (NIL).

The next big factor affecting the "familiar names" on the team is the elimination of the walk-on program and increasing scholarships to 105. Automatically new guys on scholarship that are now getting some attention that the walk-on kids didn't get. (Meaning we usually know who's on scholarship, but not always who the walk-ons are.

Then there is the change of the entire offensive and defensive coaching staffs, which directly impacts kids decisions to leave.

and obviously, there is the Portal, where kids can offer their talents up to the highest bidder, but in this season, the Portal is also filled with kids shifting due to the roster limit changes.

I think that the new JUCO eligibility rule change will also have a dramatic impact on bringing in unfamiliar names.

Didn't the class size limit of 25 also disappear? (how else do teams bring in 45 kids?)

Anyway that you split it, we have lots of new faces this season.

Not to mention, two new coordinators who are trying to adapt all of that into their preferred schemes!!!

I suspect if Armstrong had not been injured he would be well known.

That and he's young. I'm excited to see what these young defenders can do given the chance after a year in the weight room and more confidence.
