Weiberg, Dr. Shrum, and Gundy on Same Page as Football Reset Progresses

STILLWATER – With the Oklahoma State athletics director Chad Weiberg sitting across from me at a table at Hideaway Pizza on Campus Corner there was a smile, albeit a cautious one when I started to read the first question text in for the interview on radio with Weiberg.

“A raise in season football ticket prices? After a three-win season, really?”

The question from the listener was legit.

Do you know when we can expect some of these interviews of the new coaches to start being released?

Probably in a couple of weeks! They will be on OSU Max!

A bunch of retread coaches, very few real difference-making players, and a head coach who insults the fans. Now we have higher ticket prices. I see very little to be optimistic about. The board of regents was right to confront Gundy and hold him accountable. I have yet to hear a plan from him which gives me hope for success.

I've always tried to be supportive of Coach Gundy considering everything he's accomplished at OSU. But, he's CEO of the program and he needs to get in front of the fans and discuss what happened last season and his plans to turn things around going forward. Hiding and letting other folks talk about what he's planning to do doesn't cut it for me.

When a CEO of a public company doesn't meet expectations he's still required to get in front of his stake holders and answer tough questions. And he does it every three months whether it's good news or bad news. I know we aren't a public company but, in my view he still shares some of the same responsibilities.

He may not like doing it but it's part of his job. It's been close to 2 months since we've seen him discuss the program in depth. I've had season tickets for over 45 years and will renew whether he's out in front or not. But the hopes for last season were off the charts and it's was horrible. You are making millions a year to manage this program. Doing your job and earning your pay is more than just what happens on the field. It's about answering to your stake holders in good times and bad. You shouldn't go hide when things didn't go your way.

You aren't a stakeholder my friend. Do you own stock? He doesn't answer to you. He answers to the CEO / President and BOR. get over yourself.
Same goes for Tulsasig who things he is some important person.

Aggie1. Whether you like it or not, the parallels are there and you are a bit naive. Obviously, Gundy formally reports only to the AD, President and BOR. But to think myself and every other season ticket holder isn't a stakeholder in this program is nuts.

You get a massive revolt by stakeholders (donors, season ticket holders, sponsors etc.) against Coach and start by not donating to NIL, not renewing season tickets and not renewing sponsorships, you will see how quick we aren't stakeholders in this program.

huh? Your whining is now a massive revolt, that's stretching it a bit isn't it?

Like the AD said, our last w/l record doesn't matter, your opinion of the season doesn't matter, nothing will matter if we can't come up with $20m/yr additional revenue.

The ante to participate in the P4 level just went up.

We either pay for it, or we "revolt" and drop down a rung or two. That's the only choice, like it or not.

I'm curious. From anyone willing to be succinct in their calls for accountability, just what would an acceptable explanation of 2024 look and/or sound like? And after that, what will it get you? Help you pay the bills? Live longer? Sleep better at night? Help your family in some way? Justify your praises or criticisms?

Reminder: Football, while a big business in and of itself, is just entertainment.

I'm still expecting to see this from OSU, which is why I was very surprised to hear about the Gundy nepotism

A&M restructured their Athletic Department last year and now .....

Getting called to the mat will work out to be the best thing that could happen. Forced Grundy to put to NIL. Forced staffing and player changes. If players want to be paid they need to held more accountable just like a normal employee.

but, but, but.... none of that happened, including players being unaccountable.

the players are the most accountable of all, I just don't see how you can make that statement.

The players have to attend class (monitored), the players have to maintain academic progress (monitored), the players have to attend and perform all team activities (practice, film, training, etc.) (monitored). The players have to perform on the field which we monitor.

I can't think of any other group that is held more accountable (which is why they're demanding pay for their efforts.

THEY ALREADY DO THE WORK for which they are held accountable, they just want the compensation now.

When available, Weiberg should release at least a high level comparison of the 2025 budget and 2024 actual expenses to Posse members. Facility improvements associated with their plan released a couple of years ago should be put on hold until football and basketball are nationally competitive again.

You make a fair point on all. I am just saying that if an employee is being compensated and does not achieve a desired outcome they are let go. Same thing with athletes getting NIL payments if they are paid and don't perform what is expected they should asked to move on.

It was reported today that tOSU had the best team money could buy this year (e.g. like the NY Yankees before profit sharing)

5 of the 12 playoff teams were near the top in NIL spending, and several others with top NIL just missed the 12-man playoff cut.

Ohio State should NEVER have been in the playoff with losses to both Oregon, and unranked Michigan. The fact that they won it is not relevant, since somebody else would have won it if tOSU had been omitted. No conference should have 4 teams in the playoff.. period.

The first round was ridiculous with games having the lowest viewership in playoff history, and being played to the homefield advantage, which is clearly unfair.

The first round bye is complete and utter nonsense. The playoff lasted waaayyy too long, this thing needs to end the 1st or 2nd week of Jan, no later.

what a mess.
