Oklahoma State's Comeback Falls Short In 64-54 Loss to Texas Tech

Oklahoma State went on a 16-1 run in the second half to make it a three-point game, 52-49. However, Texas Tech outscored the Pokes 12-5 in the final minutes of the game to win by 10 points, 64-54.

With the loss, the Cowboys fell to 10-9 on the season and 2-6 in Big 12 play.

Bryce Thompson led the way in scoring for the Pokes as he finished with 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor, 6-of-6 from the free throw. Arturo Dean finished with 11 points and Abou Ousmane, who fouled out in the final minute, finished with a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds.

“I think we just had to cut off [Chance] McMillian’s water, he had 11 [points] really, really fast, so coach [Lutz] told me to get on him and I did my best to shut him out the rest of the game,” Bryce Thompson told the Cowboy Radio Network. “[Tech’s] a good team, but we’ve got to give ourselves a chance early to not get behind so much.”

The Cowboys shot 45% from the floor and outrebounded the Red Raiders, 30-27. But turnovers doomed the Cowboys as they finished the game with a season-high 22 turnovers, leading to 20 points on the other end.

“I don’t think [it was effort] because as a team, Tech isn’t super, super aggressive, so I think we were just shooting ourselves in the foot,” Thompson told the Cowboy Radio Network.

By the 10-minute mark of the second half, the Cowboys had committed 20 turnovers and had scored just four points in the half. Abou Ousmane ended a near-three-minute scoreless streak with a jumper from the free throw line, giving him 10 points up to that point, and cut the Red Raiders lead down to 16 points.

From that point, the Cowboys caught fire as Bryce Thompson led the Pokes on a quick 6-0 run to make it 51-39. After one free throw from Federiko with 7:35 left in the game, the Cowboys went on a 7-0 run to cut their deficit down to just six points, 52-46, following an and-one by Arturo Dean, which was followed by a free throw by Jamyron Keller and a fastbreak layup by Dean to make it a three-point game on a 10-0 run, 52-49, leading to a timeout by Tech with 5:06 left.

That’s a 16-1 run in a little bit less than four minutes.

The Red Raiders ended that with a jumper, which was followed by a missed bucket and foul on Ousmane.

Unfortunately for the Pokes, Tech built upon that miss and went on a 9-5 run, extending their lead back up to seven points, 61-54, with one minute left.

The family had a great time in Lubbock today. I must say this team plays so hard. They totally took TT best players away defensively and gave them problems with the pressure. I wish this team could generate some consistent offense because they are the real deal on defense. Out rebounded the raiders as well and that impressive. Careless unforced turnovers cost us along with just poor decision making. Arturo Dean is fun to watch. He needs some help on the perimeter. This team deserves some support at home. They represent is well and give their all.
