STILLWATER – It was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day for Oklahoma State as the Pokes got routed by Texas Tech on Saturday, 93-55.

With the loss, the Cowboys fell to 12-13 on the season and 4-10 in Big 12 play.

Marchelus Avery led the way in scoring for the Cowboys with 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor, with eight points coming in the first half. Abou Ousmane fouled out with eight points in just 13 minutes of action.

The Cowboys struggled mightily shooting as a team as they finished the game shooting 37% from the field, 35% from 3-point range and just 52% from the free throw line. The Cowboys turned the ball over 14 times, leading to 21 points on the other end. They were also outrebounded by Tech, 40-29, 31 of Tech’s boards coming on the defensive end.

For comparison, the Red Raiders shot 48% from the floor, 43% from 3-point range and nearly 90% from the free throw line, going 17-of-19. The Red Raiders combined for 23 assists to the Cowboys’ nine.

JT Toppin had yet another incredible performance as he finished with 32 points on 12-of-17 shooting from the floor with 12 rebounds.

“Boy, he’s a good player isn’t he.” Oklahoma State head coach Steve Lutz said when asked about Toppin’s game. “When he gets out there and shoot three-pointers, he becomes a real match up problem.

“Hats off to Texas Tech, Grant [McCasland] and his staff have done a wonderful job of assembling that team. They play hard, they play the right way and they’re fun to watch. With that being said, what happened today at 2 o’clock in unacceptable for our program,” Lutz added in postgame. “We’re better than that, we’ve been playing better than that and for whatever reason, today, we did not compete at the level that we need to compete at in this league in order to be successful.”

The Cowboys kept it incredible close through the first 11 minutes of the game, going on 6-0 run in less than a minute to make it a five-point game, 20-15, with 8:56 left in the game.

“I felt good,” Jamyron Keller said about the first eight minutes of the game for the Pokes. “We had a few stops early, but it was just early in the game, and we just didn’t do the right things to put ourselves in position to be up going into halftime.

“Any time you get beat by 40 points is frustrating. But it’s definitely frustrating because we knew we could play; we just beat ourselves today. So, yeah, extremely frustrating.”

That’s the closest the game would be, and the best the Cowboys would play the rest of the game, as the Red Raiders exploded in the final eight minutes to take a 19-point lead, 43-24, into the break.

The Red Raiders would continue their dominant play out of the break and into the second half as they started with an 11-1 run, which combined with the end of the first half for a 20-2 run.

An 8-0 run for the Cowboys would normally be a good thing and a cause for excitement, which is what happened from the 12:37 mark to 11:05 left in the game, following a dunk from Robert Jennings, an and-one by Khalil Brantley and a three from Chi-Chi Avery. But this 8-0 run cut the Pokes’ deficit to 25 points, certainly less than ideal.

From that point, the Red Raiders finished the game outscoring the Pokes, 28-15.

well, that right there is how far away we are from having a Top 15 team.

I saw that CU got their first B12 win of the season today, beating UCF.

I think Coach Lutz is getting all there is to get out of this group. Hopefully, with a full year to recruit he'll be able to assemble more talent.

well, we all knew we didn't have enough bigs, and when Ousmane gets in trouble, then we're really at a disadvantage.

We have some talent, just not enough and not in the right places. Here are the STAR ratings from 247

5 star - Bryce Thompson
4 star - Brandon Newman
4 star - Devonte Davis
4 star - Jamyron Keller

and a couple of high-3 guys, Dow, Brantley, Jennings II

and whatever happened to freshman Andrija Vukovic? We could use a 6-10 guy

It was the worst loss at home I remembered in my lifetime. That was confirmed last night on KFOR as being the worst OSU loss ever in GIA. OSU BB has been, to say the least, disappointing for 20+ years. This game was the lowest of those 20+ years. GO POKES!!!
