Cowgirl Basketball Falls to Baylor 84-74 in Overtime in Big 12 Semifinals
Oklahoma State Cowgirl basketball’s run in the Big 12 tournament came to an end in the semifinals. Saturday night as they fell to Baylor in overtime, 84-74.
With the loss, the Cowgirls fell to 25-6 overall on the season.
"I'm really very proud of our team for the way that they fought today," head coach Jacie Hoyt said after the game. "I loved the way that they came out just swinging and got us off to a really good start. And obviously it was never going to be an easy game, we knew that, but I thought we had a great start and loved the energy that we started the game with. It was hard to sustain that, just getting in early foul trouble. So that definitely made a difference for us."
Guard Stailee Heard led the way in scoring for the Cowgirls with 25 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the floor with 12 rebounds, before fouling out in overtime.
Both Anna Gret Asi and Micah Gray finished with double figures, Gret with 14 points and Gray with 12.
The Cowgirls shot nearly 40% from the floor and just 25% from 3-point range, going 8-of-32. They did, however, outrebound Baylor 42-38.
But fouls were an issue as Tenin Magassa fouled out in regulation with just seven points and five rebounds in 17 minutes of action.
The game came down to overtime, where Baylor outscored the Pokes, 18-8.
The Cowgirls will find out where they’re headed in the upcoming NCAA tournament next Sunday, March 16, on Selection Sunday.
"I think we've proven that we're one of the best teams in the country," Hoyt said. "Our resume shows that. You know, we've got five quad 1 wins, not sure what the net was today, it to say 26. Go to overtime with Baylor today. We belong with the best of the best, and I'm really hoping we can get off that 7 line that they keep projecting us at. I for the life of me do not understand that but ultimately that's not in our control."
