Oklahoma State Has Two of the Standouts on Day Two of Big 12 Pro Day

Day two of the conference-wide Big 12 Pro Day at The Star in Frisco, Texas and two just finished Oklahoma State Cowboys may have made sure that they will see more playing days in the NFL. Running back Ollie Gordon II did not clock another 40-yard-dash, but he did participate in all of the running back drills and did them much better than he did at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis last month. His teammate at OSU, slot receiver Brennan Presley had the second fastest time among receivers and was perfect in the drills. Presley turned some heads for sure.

There were thoughts that Gordon would run another 40 after he was the second from the bottom at the NFL Combine with a 4.61 in the forty. He did not run. In fact, he was asked by the NFL 40-yard-dash monitor Mark Gorscak of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Gordon said no, and we think it was a wise move becuase the turf field at The Star yields a lot of slow times. Oklahoma State linebacker Nick Martin did run a 40 on Wednesday and clocked 4.59 as compared to the 4.53 he ran in Indianapolis.

That is what makes Brennan Presley’s times even more impressive. Presley, who was quite the track star as well in high school at Bixby and is Oklahoma State all-time leading receiver with 315 receptions for 3,315-yards and 23 touchdowns, ran a 4.49 and then second run topped it with a 4.46. was smooth on everything including the 5-10-5 shuttle and then was perfect on every route with slant, out, curl, comeback, and deep cross. On the out, he made a smooth cut and then did a  pirouette at the point of the catch to make the catch. He stood out and the NFL Network broadcast team of Rhett Lewis and Daniel Jeremiah were highly complementive. It is what we became used to in seeing Presley.

Gordon was the focus of Jeremiah early in the boradcast and he went on to brag about Gordon.

“His legs are so big,” Jeremiah said. “He does things so smooth, catches the ball well, and he is better than the competition out here.” 

Gordon was wise in not running as the running back times were not good. Meanwhile he caught every pass including an impressive over the shoulder catch on the second wheel route drill. 

“Hard work and the way I work,” Gordon told the NFL Network on why teams should draft him. “I play every play like it is my last. I thought the Pro Day was good for me. It showed how I can work with different quarterbacks and blend in and work like we’ve been working together.”

Rashod Owens also worked at receiver. He ran well (4.53) but struggled on some of the routes. On the out route he stumbled in his cut and then heading to the boundry on the play his upper body got too far over his legs and he went down. Owens did make a great catch going up to get a bad throw on the slant and he was complimented for it.

They showed drills with the tight ends that were there in Tyler Foster and Jake Schultz. Schultz seemed to have a better day including the 40 time.

Quarterback Alan Bowman was there and ran okay. The broadcast focused more on the pass catchers than the passers, but as far as I could tell. Bowman threw better than the other quarterbacks there including Donovan Smith of Houston and current TCU quarterback Josh Hoover, who came over to help. West Virginia quarterback Garrett Green was there and worked out as a receiver. 

The defensive backs worked later in the day and that group included Oklahoma State Cowboys Trey Rucker, Kobe Hylton, and Korie Black.
