PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Oklahoma State advanced six wrestlers to the quarterfinals of the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships Thursday, scoring 27 points on the day to sit at third place and mark its most on the opening day of the tournament since it scored 29 in 2013.
OSU is just one point behind second-place Nebraska and first-place Penn State has 39.5 points. The rest of the field is nine points behind the Cowboys. It's also worth noting that Cowboys' six quarterfinalists are the second-most of any team in the field. Penn State has not lost a single match so far and has 10 quarterfinalists and no other team has more than five.
"I thought we wrestled pretty well," coach David Taylor said. "It's the national tournament. There's ups and downs, but I thought we did pretty well."
The Cowboy quarterfinalists, who finished the day 2-0 each, include Troy Spratley at 125 pounds, Caleb Fish at 157 pounds, Cameron Amine at 165 pounds, Dean Hamiti Jr. at 174 pounds, Dustin Plott at 184 pounds and Wyatt Hendrickson at heavyweight.
Hendrickson continued to be OSU's biggest point producer, earning his second pin of the tournament in as many matches as he stuck No. 15 Trevor Tinker of Cal Poly in 3:52.
Hamiti and Plott also added sets of bonus point wins as they each recorded convincing major decisions over lower-seeded opponents after starting the day with technical falls in the first round.
OSU's three other quarterfinalists each won hard-fought decisions to advance, with Spratley taking down No. 10 Stevo Poulin of Northern Colorado, 2-1; Amine knocking off No. 9 Cam Steed of Missouri, 3-1; and Fish providing one of the highlights of the event so far when he upset Ohio State's No. 5 Brandon Cannon with 10-7 win in sudden victory.

Fish's win was the fourth of his career over an opponent ranked in the top five.
Tagen Jamison also wrestled for a spot in the quarterfinals at 141 pounds, but fell in a tight match, 6-4, to No. 10 CJ Composto of Penn. He moves on to the consolation round and is joined by Cowboy 149-pounder Teague Travis, who earned a major decision in the first consolation round over Army's No. 16 Trae McDaniel to stay in the tournament.
Cowboy senior Luke Surber was the only OSU wrestler to fall out of the tournament on day one, as he dropped his first consolation match to No. 9 Zac Braunagel of Illinois.
The 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships continue through March 22 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, with the third session scheduled to begin Friday at 11 a.m. CT on ESPNU.
