Teven Jenkins to Forego Remainder of 2020 Season; Declares for NFL Draft
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State’s Charlie Dickey is down another offensive lineman. Starting senior right tackle Teven Jenkins has announced on Twitter he’s foregoing the remainder of the 2020 season and declaring for the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft.
Jenkins, a 6-6, 320-pound tackle out of Topeka, KS, is one of the top tackles in the country and is a major part of Oklahoma State’s successful running game the past two seasons. The Cowboys, led by Chuba Hubbard, rushed for 3,316 yards last season and have so far rushed for 1,854 yards this season.
In fact, in the three seasons Jenkins was a starter, Oklahoma State rushed for 8,048 yards and 69 rushing touchdowns.
Throughout his career, dating back to 2017, Jenkins played in 37 total games for the Cowboys. He started seven of eight games this season having missed the game against Texas Tech after goinge down with an injury in the first quarter of Bedlam against Oklahoma and missing the rest of the game.
On top of being widly successful for the Cowboys, Jenkins is one of the top tackles in the country. Up to this point in the season, Pro Football Focus ranks Jenkins as the No. 3 offensive tackle in the country behind only BYU tackle Brady Christensen and Virginia Tech Christian Darrisaw.
"He doesn't even know how good he is and he doesn't know how much he's worth, if you just want me to call it like it is," Mike Gundy said earlier in the season. "He's uncharacteristically strong. I watched him in a weight room this summer, I think he hit 225 like 35 times and they weren't even counting. I mean he was just doing it. He has tremendous feet. He's got good leverage, he's highly intelligent and his work ethic is getting better this year.
"I've actually told him several times over the last couple of years — I was serious, but somewhat joking with him in the weight room when there'd be a bunch of guys working out and I'd say, 'You know Teven, can you name the one person in this weight room that's worth $40 million?' He looks at me like I'm trying to give him a haircut or something. And he says,' No.' And I said, 'You, if you decide to work really hard. If you decide to just say you know what? I'm gonna do it. You're the guy.' That's the kind of talent that he has. If he just gets his mind focused on that's what I want to do. That's the level that he can get to."
Oklahoma State travels to Fort Worth, TX to face TCU in the Pokes’ second to last game of the regular season. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT and will be televised on ESPN2.
