STILLWATER – Oklahoma State is still looking to add a transfer receiver to the roster before next season, and the coaching staff is turning its attention to Roanoke, VA, and Cam Abshire.

Abshire checks in at 6-4, 185 pounds, and played for DII Emory and & Henry University the past few seasons, where he was an All-American this past season. This past season as a redshirt sophomore, Abshire played in 11 games, hauling in 51 receptions for 1,057 yards and 14 touchdowns. That’s 96 yards per game at just under five catches per game.

Those numbers are up over his redshirt freshman season where he had 38 catches for 661 yards and six touchdowns in 2023-24.

Since entering the portal on Friday, March 28, Abshire has received offers from Arkansas State, Coastal Carolina, Florida Atlantic, LA Tech, Marshall, Temple, Texas State and UTEP, along with the Cowboys offering on Saturday.

The Cowboys aren’t strangers to recruiting talented wide receivers from smaller schools as they recruited Leon Johnson III from DIII George Fox a few years back. In ’23, Johnson had 33 catches for 539 yards and one touchdown in limited action after breaking a redshirt due to injuries ahead of him.

We need the help.

Does anybody know how those receiving numbers compare to other receivers in DivII? I mean, they sound like good numbers to me, but are others in Div II putting up better numbers, are those Top 20?

Just curious, since I don't have any way determine if that's good, very good, really good.. ect.

Leon Johnson turned into a great story but I feel like he's still the exception, not the rule. Can this guy help us win the Big 12 and get us back to the tier OSU football needs to be? I'm not sure.

While his numbers were great, I'm not sure the thought process behind the offer is for him to be THE guy. He would be great depth, especially with the apparent injury plague the past few years. And with two years of eligibility, they'd have a chance to really develop year one. They'd need to land him first, but would be a solid addition to the room.
