Oklahoma State Lands Commitment From Penn State Transfer Alex Facundo

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State and David Taylor are already landed replacements for next year’s roster as Penn State transfer, Alex Facundo, took to social media to make the announcement official.

Facundo is originally out of Davison High School in Essexville, MI, where he was a four-time state champion.

He’s coming off his redshirt sophomore season this past year in which he finished with a 5-0 record with the Nittany Lions.

He was an NCAA qualifier for the Nittany Lions in 2023 at 165 pounds, going 19-6 overall, with five majors, a tech and a pin. He beat both Caleb Fish and Cameron Amine that season while they were at Michigan State and Michigan, respectively, before finishing in seventh place at the Big Ten championships, finishing 0-2.

He took an Olympic redshirt year in 2023-24. For the most part, sophomore Tyler Kasak wrestled at 157 this past season, finishing with a 23-2 overall record and finished third at NCAAs. 

At the next weight up at 165, the Nittany Lions have NCAA champion, and Hodge Trophy runner-up, Mitchell Mesenbrink, who went 27-0 on the season. 

While he’s not running from competition, it’s tough to break into Penn State’s lineup, and Taylor and Co. currently have openings in the starting line up at 157, 165 and 174 with the graduation of Fish, Amine and national champion, Dean Hamiti Jr., respectively.

Facundo is the second commitment out of the portal in this class, joining Iowa transfer, Casey Swiderski.
