Here's Something Different - Coastal Carolina Announces Free Concessions

STILLWATER – This is an incredible announcement, but Coastal Carolina University, you know them as the teal and black Chanticleers. This coming football season for their six home games at Brooks Stadium, the stadium with the teal colored turf, fans will enjoy free concessions. We’re talking hot dogs, nachos, popcorn, peanuts, and soft drinks in the Pepsi family.

They can walk away with up to four items per visit to the concession stand. They can make unlimited visits and are only required to scan each trip through an athletic department app.

“We’re always looking for ways to elevate (fans’) game day experience,” Coastal Carolina athletic director Chance Miller said in a release on Monday. “We’re excited to offer free concessions this fall as a way to say thank you for the energy, passion and support they bring to Brooks Stadium every game.”

The news is making news and is spreading like crazy through the college sports community. In a day and time where most schools including Tennessee, Texas. Ohio State, and Oklahoma State too are raising ticket prices to help fund the new revenue share of $20.5 million that will be added to college budgets, Those costs will definitely be going to the Power Four schools after the expected approval of the House vs. NCAA class-action suit settlement in April.

The only way I can see this happening is if the Chanticleers raise ticket prices, parking fees, and some other type of cost that could go toward covering the free concessions or if their concession partner makes the donation of those items and I don’t see that happening.

This is one of those deals where there has to be a catch of some sort.

How long do you want to ignore this user?

sounds like a lot about nothing.

Football concessions don't bring in that much money, as opposed to say marketing dollars to make the fans FEEL like they are getting a bargain for increased requests for more donations.

People are much happier to give when they feel like it's a deal they can live with.

Brilliant, IMHO - if implemented correctly

Having owned and operating concessions at all events, it's more money than you think, especially with the addition of beer. It's in the millions. More than you give to NIL.

but then, it's not about me, is it, and I've seen the concession numbers published for OSU.

I said the thousands of fans that do attend, and donate, would feel better about their donations, and about being asked for more.

whatever the concession amounts may be, it's peanuts annually compared to needed donations, or that is one way to look at it, if one chooses.
