Oklahoma State Officially Hosts Seton Hall Transfer Guard Isaiah Coleman

The Cowboys have hosted a talented guard out of the transfer portal.

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State hosted Seton Hall transfer guard, Isaiah Coleman, on an official visit this week.

Coleman checks in at 6-5, 191 pounds, and is out of Fredericksburg, VA, by way of Word of God Christian Academy in North Carolina. 

This past season as a sophomore, Coleman averaged 15.6 points per game on 39% shooting from the floor. He also shot 30% from 3-point range and 76% from the free throw line. He brought down 5.3 rebounds per game and averaged nearly two assists per game at 51 on the season. He did, however, have more turnovers with 60. 

He dropped 18 points on the Pokes back in December on nearly 60% shooting from the floor.

Those numbers are way up from his freshman season in which he averaged just 5.4 points per game on 31% shooting from the floor, 31% from 3-point range and 72% from the free throw line. He had just under three rebounds per game. Following his freshman season, Coleman was named to the Big East All-Freshman Team.

This would be a big-time get for Lutz and Co. if they can land him. Everything comes down to money these days, and they have more money than they've had in the past few years. So, we'll see what happens.

The only reason a player this gifted would bother visiting lowly OSU is to pan for gold, unfortunately. That is why I don't get my hopes up for landing this kind of talent anytime soon. You first have to have a successful team and then the top tier guys will consider your team if the money is right. You need both, winning program and big bucks. Cowboy basketball lacks both.

I'm not necessarily buying into all of that, neither point.

1) there have been many players who have already stated that they want to win and learn, and would turn down more money for the right opportunity for them (but yeah, they still want compensation, you just don't have to necessarily be the top bidder)

2) The Coach. It's always about the coach, regardless of the sport. Great coaches attracted great players. Players are not dumb, and they can see a programs history, and also know that a new regime has been brought in. The players are not going to sell the program short simply because the last guy couldn't get it done.


Granted, it is a huge hurdle that must be overcome (the money and the sells job by the coach), but frankly I think OSU basketball is in decent shape to make forward progress.

You seem to be selling the program out before this coach gets his first real shot at building a roster, which I totally do not understand.
