Report: Texas A&M Considering Steve Lutz in Head Coaching Search
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State is in the middle of putting together a roster for the 2025-26 season. Well, now there are rumors floating around the internet the program will have to deal with as head coach Steve Lutz’ name is being included in the Texas A&M coaching search.
Lutz was hired by Chad Weiberg last April from Western Kentucky, and before that Lutz coached at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, which is a part of the Texas A&M system of colleges.

Now, just how serious are the Aggies and AD Trev Albert? That’s yet to be seen. But there’s no question Chad Wieberg and the OSU athletic department has some big decisions ahead of them in the coming days.
First and foremost, would be trying to figure out how serious A&M would be in trying to hire Lutz away. Then, based on that answer, a new contract extension for Lutz here in Stillwater would be next on the list. However, that’s a question in itself as well based on both Travis Ford and Mike Boynton’s final contract extensions.
In year one with the Cowboys, Lutz finished with a 17-18 overall record, 7-13 in Big 12 play, both of which were more than the 2023-24 season. It was five more overall wins and three more wins in Big 12 play. They also won two more road games than they did in Boynton’s final year.
Lutz signed a five-year contract last year worth $13.5 million. His base salary this past season was $2.4 million and will go up to $3 million in 2028-29.
