Oklahoma State Spring Football: Quarterback Update

STILLWATER – Quarterback, quarterback, quarterback … It is the number one topic around Oklahoma State football this spring. Should it be? No more than the offensive line, wide receivers, defense overall, linebackers, and about any other position you want to throw in there. We are creatures of habit and quarterback is the most important player on the field, so yes, it will be the top topic.

Week two, now head coach Mike Gundy only speaks on Tuesdays.

I'm glad to hear that the QB's are going to check plays at the LOS. It seamed like we had lost that over the last few years. We ran whatever play we came with. Good QB reads and checks into a better play can pay huge dividends. However, it requires a QB with a high IQ making the correct check. I'm still excited.

Thanks for the report RA!!

Giving them the "keys to the car" sounds like something new, and like the old regime didn't trust the QBs to get out of plays. This should be more interesting... but we all know that "being more aggressive" can lead to turnovers.

This line in the article made me stop and pause... "Hejny can really run, and the even more pleasant observation is he has moves. Hejny is as slippery as he is fast. That makes for a tough combination for the defense."

I'm wondering if he can return kicks? hmmm...

Just from the article I'd go Flores to start sounds like the best combo of run and pass. Throw in some run pass option with Hejny. We have a long time to figure it out.

From what I've heard he's got an elite arm as well and makes good decisions with the football. People say he can run but to see it in person probably really took Robert back a bit, he just hasn't seen anything like that before. Talk about helping us number up in a better way and keeping the defense honest. His running ability will open up all sorts of things in the passing game for us! Excited to see how he develops. I've heard the other guys are doing good as well. Competition makes everyone better!

These guys are all Zac Robinson, Spencer Sanders type of QB's. They arrive from HS as good runners but struggle executing the passing attack against college level defenses. Zac struggled as a redshirt sophomore but got it figured out as a junior. Sanders also got it figured out but kept taking chances with the ball and threw interceptions. This is going to be about who can execute the passing attack, take care of the ball, and be a running threat.

Glad to hear Flores "looks the part." Pokes are a power 4 conference school! Their players should all "look the part."

From what video I've seen, I certainly would never describe his arm as "elite".
