Oklahoma State Lands Former Langston Standout Anthony Roy
STILLWATER – Steve Lutz is on a roll the past two days as Oklahoma State just landed its third commitment, this time coming from Green Bay transfer, and former Langston standout, Anthony Roy.
Roy checks in at 6-5 and brings tons of length and athleticism to the guard position for coach Lutz. There are two spots remaining for the coaching staff to fill.
He was a senior this past season and should have one year of eligibility remaining.
“Anthony is already familiar with Oklahoma from his time at Langston, and we’re excited to welcome him back,” said head coach Steve Lutz. “He’s a big, versatile guard who can play multiple positions. He was one of the nation’s best scorers last season before injuring his foot, and he will thrive in our system and style of play.”
Originally out of Oakland, CA, Roy spent this past season with Doug Gottlieb at Green Bay, playing in just 11 games before getting hurt. In those 11 games, he averaged nearly 26 points on 50% shooting from the floor and 43% shooting from 3-point range and 86% from the free throw line.
Those numbers include an impressive 27 against the Cowboys in the season opener back in November, and 30 points against Ohio State back on Nov. 25.
He also averaged 5.3 rebounds per game and had 32 assists and 16 steals with 30 turnovers. He finished the season with five games with 30+ points, 35 against Western Illinois, 34 against SIU-Edwardsville and IU Indy, 31 against Evansville and the 30 against the Buckeyes.
Prior to his time at Green Bay, Roy helped lead Langston to a 35-2 overall record and an appearance in the NAIA national title game. His 18 points per game and 42% shooting from 3-point range earned him a first team All-America honor.
His first two seasons of college basketball were spent at San Francisco, where he averaged four points per game in eight games, then 23 points, 7.5 rebounds and four assists per game as a sophomore with Wentachee Valley (JUCO).
Roy joins Mississippi State transfer, Kanye Clary and Seton Hall transfer, Isaiah Coleman, who both committed on Friday afternoon. There are also three high school players who will be here in June, guard Ryan Crotty and centers Mekhi Ragland, who’s signed, and center Ben Ahmed, who’s committed.
