Oklahoma State Lands Commitment From Marshall Transfer Christian Fitzpatrick

STILLWATER – This is a monster pick up for Oklahoma State out of the transfer portal as former Marshall wide receiver, Christian Fitzpatrick, has signed with the Cowboys. He is a legit 6-5 and 217 pounds and having talked with Fitzpatrick and his father, Greg, this is a polished player on and off the field. He has a degree in communications and has seen and played a lot of football. He led Marshall in receiving last season and he is capable of much more.

He went after an extra year of eligibility from the NCAA and recently received the good new that he was approved for another season and he went into the transfer portal.

Fitzpatrick had a good visit last week to Oklahoma State and nearly committed before leaving but felt he needed to go on and see something else. His next visit, leaving Friday (April 11) was to Virginia Tech. He finished his visit there and committed to Cowboys head coach Mike Gundy.

Out of Southfield, Mich, Fitzpatrick started his college career at Louisville before transferred to Michigan State. He went to Louisville to play with his older brother.

“Louisville was great, but I felt like I could be more successful and reach my potential at Michigan State,” Fitzpatrick said. “I liked it there. It was great and a can remember playing a game where you couldn’t see you cleats for the snow.”

With the Spartans he played in 28 games and in 2023 he caught 18 passes for 252 yards and a touchdown.

Now, at Marshall last season (2024), he started all 13 games and led the team in receiving with 34 receptions for 576 yards and six touchdowns. He earned national recognition, including ESPN, for a spectacular catch in the game with Virginia Tech. Overall, he has 56 receptions for 848 yards and seven touchdowns. He is averaging around 16-yards a reception.

“Marshall was really a great place, and I enjoyed it,” Fitzpatrick said. “They still talk a lot about the team in the plane crash and we still play the 75 game (tribute to the “We are Marshall” team that died in the plane crash) and it is an emotional game.”

Fitzpatrick had not committed when we chatted at the Thursday spring practice but he told me he was looking for that school where he could really showcase his abilities to make it to the next level. Oklahoma State is a fit for Fitzpatrick on that. He is a fit for what Oklahoma State is missing in the receiver corps.

Since visiting Oklahoma State schools like SMU, OKlahoma, Arizona, UCLA, Colorado, Arizona State and others tried to jump in. This is a huge get for the Oklahoma State football program!

Fitzpatrick is a player who has more potential than he has been able to show. He would get loads of opportunity in Doug Meacham’s coordinated new offense at Oklahoma State. You could see standing next to him at practice that both he and his father liked what they were seeing.
