Parker Scott Gets Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for Shutout at Tech

IRVING, Texas — Parker Scott was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for Week 5 following his dominating performance in Oklahoma State’s conference opener last Friday at No. 4 Texas Tech. Against one of the top offensive teams in the league, Scott tossed seven shutout innings and struck out a season-high nine in the Cowboys' 2-0 win as he recorded his fourth win of the season.
Scott’s seven innings tied his career high, and the southpaw allowed just six hits, all singles, while issuing only one walk.
Behind Scott’s efforts, OSU snapped the Red Raiders’ 14-game winning streak and also ended TTU’s 23-game winning streak at home.
“Brett had a lot to do with it as well,” Scott said of Brett Standlee. who came in and closed out the final two innings and earned the save.”
With Scott and Brett Standlee combining to hold TTU scoreless, it marked the first time since March 29, 2018, that the Red Raiders had been shut out at home.
“It may be my all-time favorite performance because of the (NCAA) Super Regional two years ago,” Scott said of the best of three series that went into enxtra innings in game three and was won by Tech. “There were a lot of bad memories with that, so it was good to make that one a good one.”
Scott is now 4-1 with a 1.29 ERA in five starts this season, and he has tallied 30 strikeouts in 28 innings of work. He ranks fifth nationally this season in wins.
Scott’s honor marks the fourth consecutive week that an OSU player has collected a Big 12 weekly award. Brock Mathis was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for Week 2, while Christian Encarnacion-Strand picked up the same award for Week 3. In Week 4, Justin Campbell claimed Big 12 Pitcher and Newcomer of the week accolades.
Oklahoma State opens a home stand on Tuesday with Missouri State and then Scott should get nis next start on Friday when the Cowboys open a Big 12 series at O’Brate Stadium with Kansas State.
