Portal Recruiting Continues for Oklahoma State With Offensive Tackle Markell Samuel
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State just added another commitment out of the transfer portal in Appalachian State offensive tackle, Markell Samuel, adding much-needed depth and talent on the line.
The transfer portal window doesn’t open until Wednesday, April 16, but players with degrees are in and eligible to be taken out. The Cowboy coaching staff has been ahead of the spring window opening this past week picking up Georgia State running back Freddie Brock, Emory and Henry (DII) receiver Cameron Abshire and a big-time pick up in Marshall’s leading receiver from last season in Christian Fitzpatrick.

Samuel is 6-4, 300 pounds and started all 11 games this past season, earning Honorable Mention All-Sun Belt honors. Samuel played a league-leading 817 snaps among offensive tackles. He had a Pro Football Focus grade of 67.5 on pass protection and in his last game of the season against Georgia State had a 79.2 grade overall with an 85.4 on pass protection.
He blocked for the Sun Belt passing leader in Joey Aguilar and the App State offensive line only allowed 15 sacks on the season. The Mountaineers averaged 4.4 yards per rush and 153.8 yards a game. Passing they averaged 7.7 yards per attempt and 273 yards a game.
Samuel shows good feet and arm extension and strength in pass protection. He can be a mauler in blocking for the run. He loves contact and this is after being a late bloomer in football. He focused more on basketball early in high school and he jumped all the developmental hoops in college before playing in 29 games, 25 of those the past two seasons with 15 starts at left tackle.

In high school at E.E. Smith High School in Fayetteville, N.C. he played both ways. His senior season on defense he had 70 tackles, 50 of those unassisted. He also had six sacks, and three fumbles recovered. He was a two-time All-Conference player in high school and was a consensus three-star prospect.
Samuel visited Kansas before coming to Stillwater for his visit on April 13.
