Dean Hamiti Jr. and Wyatt Hendrickson Both Advance to US Open Finals
STILLWATER – The news from out in the desert in Las Vegas from the CLAW U.S. Open Sr. Freestyle semifinals on Friday evening were really good for Oklahoma State fans and the Cowboy Regional Training Center wrestlers. Six of the CRTM representatives made the Final matches for Saturday night and the opportunity to get to Final X and then wrestle for a position for the World Championships. That group of six was headed by recent NCAA individual champions Dean Hamiti Jr. at 79 kg and Wyatt Hendrickson at 125 kg.
Dean Hamiti Jr. scored a technical fall over the son of Oklahoma State legend and Olympic Gold Medal winner Kenny Monday in Kennedy Monday. Hamiti won 14-4 in 5:52 of the match.
Meanwhile, Hendrickson defeated Trent Hilger by a 10-4 decision. The other wrestlers training out of Stillwater with wins were Jax Forrest at 61 kg, Joseph McKenna at 65 kg, at 74 kg David Carr, and Zahid Valencia is in the final at 86 kg.
The finals are set to take place tomorrow night (Saturday, April 26) at 8 p.m. (central time).
