STILLWATER – Former Oklahoma State quarterback Maealiuaki Smith is headed east as he’s signed with Ole Miss.

This comes just a few weeks after Smith entered the portal back on April 21 following the spring game.

Smith played in four games this past season as a true freshman, starting in the final two games due to injuries and poor play ahead of him. He went 44-of-74 for 489 yards and two touchdowns with four interceptions. He also had 15 rushing attempts for -9 yards, with sacks playing into that number.

His performance against Texas Tech on Senior Day in late November was his best of the four games as he went 26-of-35 for 316 yards and two touchdowns with one pick. The Pokes lost the game 56-48.

It was a bad day all the way around in the final game of the season against Colorado, but Smith went 11-of-29 for 70 yards with two picks.

Smith is originally out of Junipero Serra HS and Sacramento, CA.

Gundy and Co. currently have three quarterbacks on the roster, Zane Flores and Hauss Hejny and new transfer into the program from Tulsa, Banks Bowen.

Both Flores and Hejny are competing for the starting job, with some believing it could be a two-quarterback system with Flores’ arm and Hejny’s speed and running ability.
