STILLWATER – Oklahoma State star freshman Cade Cunningham isn’t the only Cowboy to receive postseason award nominations. On Wednesday, it was announced by CollegeInsider.com that Oklahoma State head coach Mike Boynton picked up nominations for the Jim Phelan National Coach of the Year Award and the Skip Prosser Man of the Year Award.

Boynton led the Cowboys to a 21-9 overall record on the season and an 11-7 conference record in the 2020-21 season. In fact, it’s the best overall and conference record for Oklahoma State since the 2012-13 season under Travis Ford.

Included in those conference were some rather impressive wins. The Cowboys traveled to Lubbock, TX on Jan. 2 and knocked off No. 13 Texas Tech in overtime, 82-77, then beat the Red Raiders again in overtime, this time in Stillwater with the Red Raiders ranked No. 18, 74-69.

They also knocked off No. 6 Kansas 75-70 in Stillwater, No. 6 Texas 75-67 in double overtime in Stillwater, No. 7 OU 94-90 in overtime in Norman, then again in Stillwater with OU ranked No. 16, 79-75. The Pokes finished the regular season very strong as they traveled to Morgantown, WV and knocked off No. 6 West Virginia, 85-80, without Cade Cunningham and Isaac Likekele.

The Cowboys continued their hot run into the Big 12 tournament as they knocked off the Mountaineers for the second-straight time, 72-69, then knocked off No. 2 Baylor in the semifinals, 83-74.

They were led by superstar freshman Cade Cunningham, who picked up the Big 12 Freshman and Player of the Year awards following the regular season. He’s also been tabbed a finalist for the Naismith National Player of the Year Award and several national All-America honors, including the program’s first Associated Press First Team honor. Cunningham finished the season averaging 20.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.
