STILLWATER – Oklahoma State is down a commitment in the 2026 class after edge rusher Jaylen Stewart flipped to Illinois on Sunday afternoon.

Out of Pearland, TX, Stewart checks in at 6-2, 230 pounds and made the decision to flip following an official visit to Illinois this weekend.

Stewart was the first commitment for the Pokes in the class, making his decision way back on February 20, two months ahead of his official visit to Stillwater.

This past season as a junior, Stewart posted 52 total tackles for the Oilers, 31 of which were solo stops with 10 sacks. Following the season, he was named a 6A Regional III District 22 first team selection.

Pokes Report has learned Stewart is currently dealing with a broken hip and his senior season is in doubt.

At the time of his commitment, Stewart was the No. 473 overall prospect in the class, the No. 38 overall edge rusher and the No. 64 overall ranked prospect in Texas according to the 247Sports composite. At the time of his decommitment, Stewart is the No. 602 overall prospect, the No. 58 overall edge in the class and the No. 84 overall prospect out of Texas.

that's a very distinct possibility.

I'm guess since his numbers dropped so significantly that perhaps this move could have been imitated from our side. (i.e., less money - intentionally)

or, could be his commitment was well before the House settlement, and he just recently discovered what that means at OSU, for him.

Honestly, I think it could be a combination of a lot of things. OSU is going to deal with commitments like this because they like to do all their visits in the spring, where some schools like to do there's in the summer and fall. His numbers dropped and is dealing with a pretty significant injury and then other schools are willing to pay HS players much more money than OSU is. Just look at Jett Niu with OU paying him $200,000 to flip. I wish the kid well, but I'd be shocked if he ever played in Norman. But paying a lot of money to get players is the world we live in.
