STILLWATER – For the upteenth time, this is the summer of doom and gloom for Oklahoma State football. The national college football preview magazines are out. Various websites, including ESPN and their famed SP+ rankings are out, at least the most recent version. They’ll update those two or three times before Iowa State and Kansas State kickoff Farmageddon over in Dublin, Ireland on week zero. Then on  Aug.

I'm feeling that the silly comparisons to last year's Az St team should stop pronto.

There is no comparison, no matter how you want to twist the stupid ratings.

I suppose I get the broad generality that the press missed badly on evaluating Az St's portal additions last year, but isn't it really a very far jump to even consider that they would also badly miss on our portal additions this year?

The only doom and gloom I'm seeing is when you post their crap on your site.

I enjoyed this write up Robert. I've been saying something similar for the last couple/three months. I get Rodeo's concern for the same "lightening strikes twice" hope, but reality is no one knows! IF the Cowboys did in fact strike some gold here and there off the portal and IF a qb arises like Spencer did and/or Mason did first year out, then the Pokes may surprise a lot of naysayers! I do think ASU (and Colorado) had the advantages of being "early in" with this strategy. They had less portal competitors to beat last year and got the field boost of not only some good portal players, but also some good, mature players. Meanwhile, many teams were still very much a mix of more recruited, developmental players (our secondary and linebackers). But we shall see. It does appear the Cowboys have taken a good stab at this strategy. And, some of us still believe Mike Gundy has some positive impacts on this program.

Need 7-8 wins to erase whatever last year was about. When we lose, we need to be competitive and score. GO POKES!!!

Hey Robert not just Arizona State but also two other schools who were playoff participants in SMU and Indiana! The Coach at Indiana was in his first year but brought in upwards of 35 plus players through the portal and had dedicated NIL funds that brought in a lot of guys who ended up as starters and of course you saw the results! Rhett Lashley was also able to get the moneyed elite who are SMU alums to really supercharge their NIL and they also brought in some 30 to 35 players that also vaulted them to an 11 win season and near ACC championship!!!

Meh. There is no tangible evidence we're anything but a 3-win team until we prove otherwise. Proof as in winning a fourth, fifth, sixth, etc… game.

You're right, but in the last 10 years even counting last year's (hopefully) outlier season, the Cowboys have averaged 8.5 wins per year. So there's better reason IMO to think that's what Gundy and this program produces than to believe 3 is now at all the norm. OSU fans seem more impressed/have more faith at times with respect to KSU and ISU than the home team, even though we on average led both programs for 15 plus year's prior to 2024!

This roster of players doesn't have a single player (I don't think) as a starter or significant contributor that has delivered anything better than a 3-win result. Yes, history would tell you we'll be better, but history would have also lead almost anyone to believe we were going to compete for the leagues top spot last year. I just haven't seen with my own eyes anything that gives me the least bit of confidence. But that's just me.

the PAST 10 years, DID NOT HAVE NIL, nor profit sharing..... the past no longer is relevant in these types of comparisons.
