STILLWATER – If June was the busy season, then July is the commitment season and, in some cases, the change your mind season. Oklahoma State has picked up a solid cornerback prospect from a strong North Texas high school program in Brandon Ford. The 5-11, 180-pound Ford had been committed to Kansas State since Oct. 28 last fall. However, he never seemed to lose interest in Oklahoma State or the Cowboys lose interest in him. Ford was in Stillwater for an unofficial visit during spring football. Now, that interest has turned into a flip as Ford committed to the Cowboys.

Ford broke out as a freshman in Texas high school football at Crowley He had 16 tackles, two tackles-for-loss, three interceptions, and recovered a fumble that he took back for a touchdown. Those are the kind of accomplishments that are rare for a freshman in Class 6A football. He followed it up with 17 tackles and an interception as a sophomore.

Here came the offers with Arizona, Arizona State, Houston, Kansas State, Nebraska, North Texas, Oklahoma State, Pittsburgh, San Diego State, SMU, Texas Tech, UNLV, and Washington State among 27 total scholarship offers.

You can see that Ford is both a physical corner who doesn’t mind coming up in run support and making hits. At the same time, the speedy athlete that has also run track, can cover and has really good success in tracking the football in flight.

This past season he led Crowley to an 8-5 finish (5-1 in district) and a three-game run in the playoffs with wins over Justin Northwest (51-14) and Midland (26-21) before losing to Denton Guyer (44-7).

He was first-team All-District 3-6A and led the district in passes defended with 15. He had 39 tackles, one for loss, and two interceptions. The Dallas Morning News named him honorable mention All-Area.

Ford brings the Oklahoma State total of commitments to 14. He is the eighth pledge on defense, the second cornerback, and the fourth from Texas.
