Oklahoma State nominates NCAA Champion Wyatt Hendrickson and NCAA fourth-place finisher Emma Robbins for the honors.

STILLWATER – For the past week the schools in the Big 12 in alphabetical order have been releasing their nominees for the Big 12 Athlete of the Year awards for the past school year of 2024-25. It was Oklahoma State’s turn on Monday, July 21 and no surprise as one of the finalist for Male Athlete of the Year at last week’s ESPY Awards was the Cowboys male nominee in wrestler Wyatt Hendrickson. The Cowgirls female nominee is female track-and-field thrower Emma Robbins.

Robbins was a redshirt senior transfer from Kansas State where she was successful in both the hammer and indoor weight throw. Robbins, originally from Anaheim, Calf, earned first team All-America honors in the hammer throw with a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. in June.

Robbins in working on a graduate degree at Oklahoma State having already earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (Management) and now she is pursuing her Master of Business Administration.

Hendrickson, a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force and a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy is known nationally and worldwide after his perfect 27-0 season that culminated in the NCAA Wrestling Championships in Philadelphia, Pa. where in front of the President of the United States, his commander-in-chief as a military officer, he defeated Olympic, World, and two-time NCAA heavyweight champion Gable Steveson. It was one of the greatest upsets and most memorable moments in NCAA wrestling history.

The senior from Newton, Kan, Hendrickson beacme the third Cowboy in program history to win the Dan Hodge Trophy, finishing the season 27-0 with 21 bonus-point wins (13 pins, 8 tech falls). Nine of those victories came against All-Americans. He also won The Schalles Award as the top collegiate wrestler in pins over the season.

Since the end of his collegiate season and collegiate career, Hendrickson has stayed unbeaten and won the U.S. Senior Open, the Pan American Games Gold, and just won Final X to earn the starting position at 125 kg for Team USA in Septemeber’s World Championships in Croatia.
