Ollie Gordon Has to Wait for Debut, but He Scored a Touchdown for Miami to Lead
STILLWATER – The social media message from Oklahoma State football came out just seconds after Ollie Gordon II scored his first NFL touchdown, albeit in a preseason game, so it is unofficial. Don’t tell Gordon II because he celebrated like it was the real deal and to him it was as he powered in from two-yards out and then tossed the ball high in the air as teammates congratulated him. The touchdown gave the Dolphins the lead early in the fourth quarter 21-17.
I was a little surprised that Ollie Gordon II, a sixth round pick in the NFL Draft, did not get into the game until late in the third quarter. He broke off a 20-yard run for his first NFL carry. He finished the game with eight carries for 33-yards and the touchdown. He averaged 4.1-yards per carry. Gordon II also caught a pass for 39-yards that helped the Dolphins convert on a fourth down on the scoring drive.
The game ended in a 24-24 tie and there are no overtimes played in NFL preseason games.
Two other former Cowboys played in the contest, both NFL veterans on the Bears defense and both came out of the game with injuries.
Tre Flowers, who was signed by the Bears in the last 10 days played cornerback and had five tackles, four unassisted and defended two passes. Flowers, who has also played for Jacksonville, Cincinnati, and Seattle left with a left leg or knee injury.
Linebacker Amen Ogbongbemiga is a veteran that has played for the Chargers and was with the Bears all last season. He played in the first half and was held out after halftime with a reproted shoulder injury.
Interesting sidenote, former Oklahoma State slot receiver and a captain in the 2022 season, John Paul Richardson, who finished his college career at TCU is also with the Bears. He played in the second half and caught two passes for seven-yards and also returned one punt for nine-yards.
