STILLWATER – Oklahoma State won its first game in 348 days as the Cowboys beat Tennessee Martin in Stillwater, 27-7.

Head coach Mike Gundy met with the media following the game to discuss the win.

“OK, that's a good one to get under our belt and get moving,” Gundy said in his opening statement. “I told the team, there'll be a lot that we can learn from in all three phases. The good thing is, we've got good video to learn a lot about some of our new players and our team, which I'm excited about that. Glad we played on a Thursday. Give the guys a chance to recover tomorrow and get a day off on Saturday. It'll be good.

“But the one thing that we did on defense was really good is we were good against the run, but unfortunately, we weren't very good on offense. We're a little bit over three yards a carry, and I'd love to have that at four and a half yards a carry rushing the ball. Did a good job taking care of the football offensively, and then, defensively, I don't know for sure. I haven't seen the staff, but I know that we got to the quarterback quite a bit. Did a good job. I thought we were good from a penalty standpoint. We had two horsecollars, which we want to try to avoid those, but those are effort plays. Guys are laying out, and those don't bother me as much as a personal foul. I know it's a personal foul, but guys are playing hard and with great effort. We had two of those, which is a little bit unusual. Other than that, we only had 25 yards in penalties. So I was pleased with that.

“We were over 50% on third downs, which is good, and then obviously one for one on fourth down. So we got a lot of room for improvement, but get back to work here in a couple days and get ready for the next game.”
