STILLWATER – Bad news for Oklahoma State football following a solid start to the season for Hauss Hejny as Pokes Report can confirm Hejny broke his foot in the first quarter against UT Martin.
Brett McMurphy is reporting Hejny is set to have surgery and could miss around five weeks. The Cowboys will host the Baylor Bears on September 27 for the Big 12 opener.
Head coach Mike Gundy was asked about Hejny’s status after the game Thursday night, to which he refused to give an update, which was expected.
"I won't give injury updates either way. I don't know. I never will know on those until the next day anyway, but both of those guys weren't in a position to come back. But I'll know more later."
Hejny finished the game going 5-of-10 passing for 96 yards and one touchdown with four carries for 27 yards and a touchdown.
“I thought he played well,” Gundy said of Hejny’s performance. “He moved around and was effective and made plays with his legs, which is what he does. He didn’t get to play long enough to get into a rhythm, but I thought he started out the game really well.”
Following Hejny’s departure, redshirt freshman Zane Flores came into the game to start the second quarter. He went 13-of-20 passing for 136 yards.
The Cowboys travel up to Eugene, OR., next weekend with a showdown with the Oregon Ducks. This will mark the first start of Flores’ career.
