Mike Gundy Gets Early Start to TV Career Recreating "Rant" For Phone Service Commercial
STILLWATER – While Oklahoma State prepares for the upcoming road game against No. 6 Oregon this weekend, the rest of the college football world is talking about Mike Gundy’s comments on Oregon’s money situation.
Well, on Tuesday, coach Gundy gave everyone something else to talk about. Mike was asked before the season what he’d like to do after coaching, to which he replied he’d like to get into television. Well, here’s his early foray into showbiz.
The TV spot for Consumer Cellular pokes fun at his infamous rant from 2007. In the spot, he says “I’m not 40. I’m 58,” and before walking out of the room, “big wireless makes me want to puke.”
One of the discussions we had this morning was how many takes it took Mike to do, because there’s a few spots that could turn into tongue twisters, especially with feigning outrage.
Gundy told Pokes Report it took him five takes, which is just a few times more than my guess of three.
“I thought my acting ability was pretty good for the first time,” Gundy told Pokes Report.
The Pokes face Oregon on Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. CT kick on CBS. We’ll see if he’s asked about the spot after the game. It’s certain to come up on Monday in his weekly presser.
