No News On Athletic Director Chad Weiberg's Contract Situation
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State University/A&M Board of Regents met for the first time for the fiscal/school year on Friday, Sept. 12 at Langston University, one of the schools under the board’s direction. The meeting lasted right around two hours and Pokes Report checking on any issues or discussion of any subjects of athletics confirmed there was nothing on the agenda for the meeting with regard to athletics. A high-ranking official in the athletic diepartment said there was no discussion on Oklahoma State University Vice-President of Athletics and athletic director Chad Weiberg or any other athletic department topic. There were no athletic department personnel that were asked to be in attendance thus there wasn’t anybody from athletics.
Weiberg, who mid-summer had a heart issue discovered and underwent open heart surgery, is still working without a contract. He has been back at work recently and was on the trip to Oregon last week that also included members of the Board of Regents, school President Dr. James Hess, and several prominent donors to the University.
Dr. Hess left the meeting early for business back in Stillwater. Afterwards, the Tulsa World questioned Oklahoma State University Vice-President Kyle Wray on the Weiberg situation.
“Chad is committed to our student-athletes and our coaches,” Wray told the media including The Tulsa World. “Our president is committed to Chad’s energy and dedication to (OSU athletics personnel).
“I think the contract will be addressed in due time,” Wray continued. “Today wasn’t (the right time), but when it’s time to have that discussion, we’ll have it.”
Wray was asked if that meant that Weiberg is definitely getting a new contract and will remain as Oklahoma State’s athletic department leader?
“Oh, no — I’m not saying that at all,” Wray answered. “That would be putting words in the mouth of the president and the board. It’ll be addressed in due time. I have no way of knowing ... what the time frame would be.”
Wray was then asked if Hess were there and taking the same questions whether his answers would be consistent with those that Wray gave the media?
“The exact same thing I said,” Wray answered.
