STILLWATER – Oklahoma State dropped its 14th straight FBS opponent as the Cowboys fell to Houston, 39-17. It also marked the 12th-straight Big 12 loss as well.
With the loss, the Cowboys fell to 1-5 and 0-3 in Big 12 play.
Aside from the first few drives of the first quarter, the Cowboys struggled to move the ball on offense. They finished the game with a total of 225 yards, 180 through the air and 45 on the ground.
Wide receiver Sam Jackson V got the start at quarterback and went 7-of-16 for 84 yards and an interception.
What was close to being the lone offensive touchdown of the game came on a 63-yard pass from fellow wide receiver, Shamar Rigby, as he hit running back Rodney Fields Jr., who was wide open following the double-pass.
The second came late in the fourth quarter, Noah Walters hit Gavin Freeman for 33 yards over the middle, with Freeman fighting his way into the end zone to make it a 39-17.
Fields led the team in receiving with his 63 yards, while Freeman finished in second with 59 yards and one touchdown on three receptions.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Cowboys allowed 485 yards from the Cougars, 319 yards through the air and 166 on the ground.
The Cougars won the toss and deferred to the second half, giving the Pokes the ball to start the game. The first play of the game was an incomplete pass from Jackson V to Quinton Stewart, which was followed by a fumbled snap by Jackson. He completed a 15-yard pass to Gavin Freeman on 3rd and 14 and picked up one-yard on the ground on 1st and 10 to the OSU 36-yard line.
Jackson V then hit Rigby with a backwards pass, who then hit Fields for the 63 yards touchdown pass.
The Cougars scored quickly to tie the game up, then a field goal to go up by three. Logan Ward hit a 37-yard field goal early in the second quarter to tie the game up at 10 before Houston pulled away and never looked back.
The Cowboys are back in action this week as they play host to Cincinnati for Homecoming.
