STILLWATER – Oklahoma State dropped its Homecoming match up to Cincinnati on Saturday evening, 49-17. With the loss, the Cowboys fell to 1-6 on the season and 0-4 in Big 12 play.
Interim head coach Doug Meacham met with the media following the game to discuss the loss.
“Some positives there, right? We felt good at times. There was a feeling at times that ‘Hey, we're about to turn the corner’ and then things just didn't work out. Fields rushed for, I think, what was 190 yards (163). Good for him, because that’s a top 25 team. And what were they averaging? Like, 120-some odd rushing the game? (129.2). Our guys did have a good plan. We ran the football really well and it set up some other things. And Sam Jackson made some plays with his legs and improvised on a few. There were some times there, it was pretty exciting. I’m proud of our defense for coming out in the third quarter. I think they had 40-some odd yards in the third quarter. (44).
“We made them punt back-to-back,” Meacham continued. “We almost made them punt three times. They hit a third-and-16, the guy made a great throw in the traffic and it just worked out. I don't know what to say. You know, as boring as this is going to sound, we're going to go back to the drawing board. We're going to find the guys that want to keep fighting. We're going to get in there, and we're going to do the best we can as coaches to go get the next one.We got five more left and here we go.”
