STILLWATER, OK – Wednesday afternoon, Oklahoma State softball head coach Kenny Gajewski spoke with the media for a normal media availability, but quickly turned into a breaking news moment when he said that the softball program would be getting a new stadium, with construction possibly beginning in the next 2-3 years.

“Coach Holder and I have really done a lot of work to get some things going on this stadium, and we’re going to,” Gajewski said. “We’re going to build a new stadium.”

In discussion, he said that he hopes the stadium can modeled after Cecil O’Brate Stadium, the new home of Cowboy baseball that was recently named the top baseball stadium in the country.

He said his hope is that the new stadium, whenever it is built, could be located in the same location it is now, on the corner of Duck and McElroy. Gajewski said he thinks a good option would be to build the new softball stadium in the place of Allie P. Reynolds stadium, the now vacant baseball stadium, which resides just next to the current Cowgirl stadium.

It was estimated that the project would cost around $25-30 million.

Being that this was the first mention of a new softball stadium, Pokes Report checked with multiple sources inside the athletic department and none were aware of any plans for the start of a new softball stadium project. We also weren’t able to discover any major donations dedicated toward a project like that. However, we were told that if a donor were to make that donation and specifically request that it go toward a facility such as that then the situation would change in a hurry.

Looking at athletic departments across the Big 12 and the region, there are some schools that had major facility projects underway before and during the pandemic. However, the majority of athletic directors and departments are still working to deal with revenue shortfalls due to COVID-19. At Oklahoma State, athletic department personnel, including many coaches, aren’t due to go back to receiving their normal salary until mid summer of 2021.

While a new stadium may be a dream for Kenny Gajkewski, it appears that right now in the current circumstances, that’s all it is, a dream.
