Presley Feeling Like a Younger Older Guy

STILLWATER – Kasey Dunn is quick to tell anybody that wants to listen that the future of the receiver corps at Oklahoma State is in good hands. You like that, I took a few minutes to come up with that line. It takes more than hands for a good receiver group. You have to have speed, physicality, intelligence, and, yes, good hands and ball skills. Dunn is excited about the big twins from Allen as Blaine and Bryson Green both look like they are going to develop into 6-2, 220-pound plus jumbo pass catchers. Jaden Bray is as explosively athletically as kids get. John Paul Richardson is a possible Dillon Stoner 2.0. Don’t forget the guys already here. This time last year if spring practice had still been going on you might have been hearing about Brennan Presley. The elusive talent out of Bixby was there and ready, but by this date last year everybody was home and football, all sports, were in an all-out pause.

“You saw what he did in the bowl game and if you just play the numbers repetition-wise, seeing it, watching video he might have hit that at game five, but we didn’t have spring,” head coach Mike Gundy was explaining. “He played two months, September and October playing catch up because if you remember watching our games, he would do things in the game and then drop the ball. He was in the right spot, but the game was moving fast. He was playing good by the end

Presley had six catches for 118-yards and three touchdowns in the Cheez-It Bowl.

of November and then he had a really good bowl game. All those reps started adding up. He was getting those reps in practice and in games, but he didn’t have them in the spring. That is what I’m talking about.”

Presley doesn’t dispute what Gundy is saying. In fact, this spring he is doing his best to make up for the first spring practice that he should have gained from in 2020.

“I’m just taking a deeper understanding of the playbook. You can only learn so much in one semester, expand on what I know, attacking it mentally rather than physically,” Presley said of his focus this spring. “The speed of college is so much faster than high school, so the more reps you get the more you get a knack of what is important. The more reps I got in the bowl game the more I caught on to things and that’s just how it went.”

Presley’s reverse for a TD was the difference against K-State.

The beauty of Presley and the experience he is getting this spring is Gundy, Dunn, and special teams analyst M.K. Taylor are working to discover all the different skills and talent that Presley can add to the Cowboys cause.

“He can do a lot of things we know. Just pull out his high school tape, he can run it, catch it, he can throw it. He can do a lot of things,” Gundy added of Presley’s skill set. “He’s got his speed down now. I think he was a 4.51 guy. We need to bring him into the offense in different ways because he is so versatile, and he’s a quick learner. Again, this is not an easy game to learn without reps and with no spring it took until November to get him going when with a spring it could have been middle of September.”

Again, the no spring assessment, which is out the window by the end of the month. Presley is listed at 5-8, 170-pounds, but he plays bigger and is much more physical than you would think.

“He’ll be in the return game and we could use him in punt coverage,” Gundy said. “Then he can do just about anything on offense.”

“I did kickoff return in high school, but didn’t get a lot of reps. I really didn’t do punt return in high school, and it really doesn’t matter to me, whatever they need me, I’ll do,” answered Presley. “Whatever it takes because I’m not different from anybody else. There are people who would kill to be in position and I’m not thinking I’m different from anybody else.”

You wish all your players had that attitude. Presley is totally selfless. He is all about the team.

Looking forward to seeing him this year. And hope his brother joins him and we have double jeopardy in the future!

Cowboy up, Brennan! Seems like a great young man and I don't know where Coach Gundy pulled the 4.5 thing but he sure looks faster than that, he plays like he's 4.3 to 4.4, but some guys just move better in pads than others and that might be Presley's thing too!

I think he is more of a 4.43 than 4.4 or 4.5 guy.
