STILLWATER – Oklahoma State lost to Iowa State on senior day in Stillwater, 20-13.
Interim head coach Doug Meacham met with the media following the game to put a bow on the season, as well as what happened in the game and what this group of seniors meant to him.
“I’ll tell you what, I feel kind of bad because I got them up there on the stage — we had a team meeting yesterday, I believe — and I went through the spill of, ‘One day, you guys, this is gonna be you standing up here,’ that sort of thing. And statistically speaking, probably three or four of them are going to get into (NFL training) camp, so about 90% of them are never gonna lace ‘em up again. And I feel kinda bad about it because I looked up here and one of the wide receivers was crying, and I think I made him cry, so I feel bad about that. But it’s a harsh reality. I mean, you love it so much; you want to play forever. But for everyone, (???) it’s gotta end at some point. And I wish all those guys the best of luck, and I told them that if they ever need anything, give me a call. I’ll do everything I could for them and help them in any way I could. For those seniors, when it comes down to it, you start talking about wins and losses, they’re probably not going to say much, but it’s probably a lot to be said about this team and their teammates, which is really important.”
