STILLWATER – We now see how Oklahoma State is filling its somewhat empty quarterback room. We have reported that North Texas quarterback Drew Mestemaker, the leading passer in the nation in Division I FBS by yards and touchdowns, will come out of the portal and join his former coaching staff at Oklahoma State. As of now, Hauss Hejny is still an Oklahoma State quarterback. The rest of the quarterbacks from the 2025 team have gone into the transfer portal.

Hunter Trusler of Dalhart (TX) HS has reported himself as a commitment to Oklahoma State joining two other known 2026 quarterbacks heading to Stillwater. That also includes signee from Dec. 3 in Broderick Vehrs from Arizona Class 1 State Champion Chandler Basha High School and Barrington, Ill. commitment Luke Tepas.

Trusler is a three-sport athlete that also plays outfield in baseball and Dalhart has always been a very solid baseball program. In basketball, he is a combo guard.

In football, he led Dalhart to a 9-3 record overall and a 2-1 second place finish in District 3A-1 and into the playoffs. A two-year starter at quarterback that also plays safety, he threw for just under 4,000 yards and ran for 2,061-yards in his career. He had 43 touchdown passes and 16 interceptions. He added 35 touchdowns on the ground.

Hunter Trusler of Dalhart has the size and all of the stat numbers you would look for.

This season he completed 131-of-225 passes for 2,215-yards and 25 touchdowns with eight interceptions. He ran the ball 182 times for 1,202-yards and 17 touchdowns. He averaged 6.6-yards per carry and had a 95-yard touchdown run proving he has exceptional speed and rushing ability.

The 6-1, 185 pound Trusler up in the panhandle of Texas did not get a lot of recruiting attention. We do know that Army had offered.

It appears that Eric Morris and company are using his evaluation skills at quarterback to find quality players off the beaten path.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
RA, why would we take 3 HS QB's? Two I understand. If we want 5, take someone with some experience out of the portal to go with Hejney.

I'm guessing they could another portal QB even if Hauss stays. The room is bare.
