After Previously Announcing He Was Staying, Oliphant Jr. Adds His Name to the Portal
STILLWATER – Now there are about faces, as it is downright strange that potential young talent at linebacker Jacobi Oliphant Jr. has reversed his decision to announce he was staying at Oklahoma State with the new coaching staff led by Eric Morris to now placing himself in the NCAA Transfer Portal.
Oliphant Jr, a redshirt freshman from St. Louis University H.S. in Missouri came to Stillwater as a top corner or safety, but with the work in the weight room with Rob Gass and his staff added some 20 pound of muscle. This summer and season, Oliphant Jr. was moved to linebacker and by the end of the season was getting significant snaps on defense.
At 6-4 and now 225 pounds, he was a potential hige building block for future defensive coordinator Skyler Cassity.
Oliphant Jr. finished the season with 24 tackles, 13 unassisted, two tackles-for-loss, two sacks, a pass breakup, and a quarterback hurry. He really didn’t get significant playing time until late and under interim defensive coordinator Clint Bowen.
Oliphant Jr, who entered the portal after earlier this week coming out and posting on social media he was staying, went in shortly after classmate and running back Rodney Fields Jr.
The Missouri native chose Oklahoma State in recruiting with a big schoolwide announcement over about two dozen schools including Boston College and UConn.
