Oklahoma State Cowgirls Get Back on Track Against Houston
STILLWATER- If the Cowgirls’ new year’s resolution was for wins, then 2026 is off to a good start.
Oklahoma State beat Houston 83-52 on Saturday afternoon at Gallagher-Iba Arena. The Cowgirls improved to 13-3 overall and 2-1 in the Big 12.
“Today was a good day for us to just kind of pick ourselves up,” coach Jacie Hoyt said. “I have been really proud of our girls over the last few days in practice and in preparation for this game.”
In addition to being the first win of 2026, it was the first time that the Cowgirls have beaten Houston since the Cougars joined the Big 12 in 2023.
“Houston is a scrappy team and they do not take plays off,” Hoyt said. “They are well coached so it was good for us to go up against a team like that.”
Micah Gray and Jadyn Wooten led the Cowgirls with 21 points. Gray has had more than 20 points in five of the last seven games.
“Jadyn’s midrange shot is probably her most elite skill,” Hoyt said. “She’s growing up right before everyone’s eyes and it’s incredible.”
The Cowgirls shot 51 percent from the field. The team also saw continued success scoring inside, finishing with 44 points in the paint.
“We have just been working on putting it together for 40 minutes,” Hoyt said. "We took a step forward with that today. We were not perfect, but it’s getting a lot better.”
The Cowgirls saw another welcome statistical improvement typical of performances earlier in the season. The team had 23 assists on 34 made baskets, including 13 assists on 19 field goals in the first half.
“We have Jadyn as a great facilitator and someone who gives her teammates confidence,” Hoyt said. “I know I have all the confidence in the world when we play like that.”
Defensively Oklahoma State avoided the foul trouble that plagued it against Baylor earlier in the week. The team also forced 22 turnovers, including 11 in the first half.
“Today was just about coming back together and getting back to our roots,” Wooten said. "We know what we want to do it’s just about how well we do it.”
The Cowgirls are confident after getting back into the win column that more success will come in Big 12 play.
“We are still a tea figuring out the difference in what good teams do and what great teams do,” Hoyt said. “We took a really good step with that today.”
