STILLWATER – Eric Morris and Co. have landed the first defensive player out of the transfer portal in North Texas defensive back, Quinton Hammonds. They continued to add talent on offense as UNT veteran wide receiver Miles Coleman committed on Sunday afternoon.
Coleman was perhaps a little more of a surprise as he wasn’t thought to be on deck. He did visit Stillwater and the 5-6, 170-pound high school teammate of new Oklahoma State quarterback Drew Mestemaker at Vandegrift High School in Austin, Texas, had 47 receptions for 550 yards and two touchdowns this past season. Coleman will be a junior going into next season at OSU.
Coleman also rushed twice this season for 22 yards.
He is definitely a slot receiver and brings kick and punt return ability to the program. He returned 10 punts for a 4.2 yards average and three kickoffs as well. As a freshman, Coleman played in 11 games and had 36 receptions for 378 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
In high school, he earned third-team All-State honors as a retuner by the Texas Sports Writers Association in 2023 and was a second-team All-State selection as a wide receiver in 2022. He was the unanimous 2023 District 25-6A MVP his senior season and earned 25-6A Offensive MVP honors as a junior. At Vandegrift, he had over 3,000 yards receiving and 40 touchdowns.
Hammonds was one of several Mean Green players on official visits in Stillwater this weekend, which included Drew Mestemaker, Caleb Hawkins and Wyatt Young.
Hammonds checks in at 6-1, 219 pounds and is originally out of Allen (TX) HS. This past season as a true sophomore, Hammonds appeared in 12 games, starting in 10. He recorded 53 total tackles, 26 of which were solo stops, including five tackles for loss and one sack. He also had two interceptions, two quarterback hurries, three pass break ups and one forced fumble.
As a true freshman, Hammonds played in all 13 games, starting five of them. He recorded an impressive 52 total tackles, which included 35 solo stops. He also had one interception for 29 yards, one quarterback hurry, one pass break up and 1.5 tackles for loss.
An impressive first two seasons of college football.
Hammonds and Coleman represent the fifth and sixth commitments out of the portal for Morris and Co. and the third from North Texas. He joins QB Drew Mestemaker and RB Caleb Hawkins, SFA punter Lachie Pozzobon and SMU long snapper Nolan Akins.
