Former North Texas and Kansas Center Tyler Mercer Signs with Oklahoma State
STILLWATER – Needing to major in line-of-scrimmage players now in the transfer portal, new Oklahoma State head coach Eric Morris and his staff have added to their portal inventory with center Tyler Mercer. The 6-4, 300 pound native of Prosper, Texas will be a redshirt-sophomore entering this spring at Oklahoma State. Last season he played in three games for Kansas, Fresno State, Wagner, and West Virginia.
He played in eight games as a true freshman at North Texas, so he is now being reunited with Morris and the staff at North Texas.
A source at Kansas told me that Mercer is a really good kid and an intelligent player. The concern at Kansas was whether they felt he would physically develop enough to be productive in their more pro style offense.
Mercer is the 22nd player the Cowboys have picked up in the transfer portal window and he is the 17th player with either a connection to North Texas or is coming directly from the Mean Green program.
Mercer was a real standout in high school at powerhouse Prosper being named to the THSCA 6A Super Elite team and making the third-team All-State squad from the Texas Sports Writers Association. He was named the District 5-6A Offensive Line MVP in both his junior and senior seasons at Prosper.
