Major Pickups in the Portal - Tech's Maurion Horn and Akron's Polk sign with the Cowboys
STILLWATER – The hits keep on coming and this latest ones that could really pay off. Oklahoma State has picked up second-team All-MAC wide receiver Israel Polk out of Akron and then Texas Tech cornerback Maurion Horn. Horn’s signing was first reported by On3 Sports. The 5-11, 190 pound corner originally out of Broken Arrow, Okla. is a talented player that knows the Big 12 and could slide into a starting role. It’s not out of the question to say this is the biggest defensive pickup so far in the portal window for Oklahoma State and new head coach Eric Morris. Horn will be a redshirt senior this coming season.
This past season Horn played in seven games for the Big 12 champions with four tackles, three of those solo stops. He had three pass break-ups for the top defensive team in the Big 12.
In his career he played in 30 games with 64 tackles, 37 unassisted, three tackles-for-loss, and eight passes defended. He was a regular starter for the Red Raiders as a sophomore with 13 starts and he is a talented player.
Polk is a 6-1, 170 pound receiver that will be a redshirt junior coming to Stillwater off a strong 2025 season where he had 33 receptions for 525-yards and scored eight touchdowns. His best games came in non conference with UAB with four receptions for 99-yards and a pair of touchdowns and then in MAC play against Ball State he had four receptions for 72-yards and another pair of touchdowns.
For his career, Polk has 57 catches for 726-yards and eight touchdowns. He started his college career at Pittsburgh and in his one-year there played in only four games preserving his redshirt. He had one catch for 14-yards against Duke.
Back to Horn, He was a top recruit in Oklahoma. As a senior coming out of Broken Arrow, Horn was a two-way player splitting time as a running back and defensive back during prep career. He helped lead Broken Arrow to the state semifinals both his sophomore and senior seasons and the state quarterfinals as a junior in 2020. The Tigers won the Class 6A Division I state title his freshman year.
He earned the District 1-6A Offensive Player of the Year as a senior after recording 1,349 rushing yards in 12 games, averaging 112.4 yards per game. Horn ran for 1,079 yards and 13 total touchdowns as a junior, while adding 36 tackles and five pass deflections.
He was selected to the 2022 Under Armour All-American Game and also the Oklahoma Coaches Association All-Star Game following his senior year.
Polk was also a high school standout coming from one of the most tradition rich schools in the country. He was part of a 2022 High School national championship (MaxPrep) at St. John Bosco in California. Polk compiled 458 yards on a team-high 26 receptions (17.6 avg.) with eight touchdowns. He helped lead the Braves to a 13-1 record and the CIF Southern Section Division I Championship in the 2023 season. His older brother, Makai, played collegiately at Mississippi State and California. He was a member of the New York Giants in 2022.
