STILLWATER – Eric Morris and Co. have added a second offensive lineman out of the transfer portal on Tuesday. First reported by On3, OU transfer Jacob Sexton has committed to Oklahoma State. By Wednesday morning (Jan. 7) he had changed his profile photo on his Twitter account (@Jacob_Sexton_)
He joins KU transfer, Tyler Mercer, who committed to the Pokes earlier on Tuesday.
Sexton checks in at 6-6, 330 pounds, and is originally out of Edmond (OK) Deer Creek in the 2022 class. He attended Oklahoma State camps as a prospect and was recruited actively by the Cowboys staff, but he was always honest about his intentions. He wanted to go to Oklahoma and when they offered, he committed to the Sooners. He ended up a consensus four-star prospect and won all kinds of honors at Deer Creek from All-State by The Oklahoman, The Tulsa World, and Oklahoma Coaches Association. He was the top lineman in his district.
Injuries have been a bit of an issue for Sexton over the years, but he played in 10 of the Sooners’ 13 games as a true freshman in 2022, playing 71 offensive snaps, 49 at left tackle and 22 at right tackle.
He played in seven games in 2023, with four starts at right tackle in the last four games of the season before starting the first eight games of the 2024 season on the left side of the line, four each at left guard and left tackle. He played in just the season opener against Illinois State before suffering a season-ending knee injury.
Sexton is now the 25th overall commitment for Eric Morris and Co. out of the transfer portal.
Oklahoma State has had multiple players transfer from Oklahoma in recent years. Gavin Freeman is one and ironically he went into the portal on Tuesday night just before Sexton’s news came out. Kalib Hicks is a running back that transferred from OU last year and he is in the portal currently.
