Oklahoma State Picks Up a Potential Linebacker Starter from UCLA in Chisom
STILLWATER – Oklahooma State has secured a really good defensive addition out of the transfer portal in Isaiah Chisom from UCLA. First reported by On3, Chisom committed to the Cowboys on Saturday (Jan. 10). The 6-1, 235 pounder is a high volume, very active tackler that started 10 games and played in all 12 for the Bruins last season after transferring to Westwood from Oregon State.
I don’t care what outlets like 247 Sports and others say I believe that Chisom is a four-star pick up just like Caleb Hawkins and Wyatt Young. He’s on defense and even more valuable just like Maurion Horn from Texas Tech.
In his three seasons in Division I, one season at UCLA and two seasons at Oregon State he started 22 games of the 29 he played in. He registered 173 tackles, 29 of those unassisted, 6.5 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, and 1.0 sack. Chisom has recorded four double-digit tackle performances and his career high in tackles with 17 came in the 2025 season opener for UCLA versus Utah.
Chisom is strong and powerful enough to play inside and defende between the tackles at the second level, but he is also athletic enough to play outside and be involved in pass coverage. He is truly a multiple linebacker talent.
This past season he was easily one of the Bruins top defenders and was as active as any Big Ten linebackers. He finished ranked second on the team with 84 total tackles, 40 unassisted, and recorded 2.5 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles, and one pass breakup. He ranked 15th in the Big Ten with 7.0 tackles per game. Chisom led the Bruins in tackles in four contests.
In his redshirt freshman season in 2024 at Oregon State he was named to The Athletic’s freshman All-American team as he played in all 12 games and made 11 starts in his redshirt freshman season. Oregon State’s second-leading tackler with 75 stops and 30 unassisted, he recorded 5.0 tackles for loss for a total of 13 yards, notched two quarterback hurries, had one pass breakup, and fforced one fumble.
He redshirted his freshman season at Oregon State, playing in four regular season games and made his only start versus Notre Dame in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl (Dec. 29). In that game he totaled 14 tackles.
In high school at Chaminade College Prep in West Hills, Calf. he was a three-star recruit according to 247Sports and Rivals. He earned 2022 All-CIF SS Division II honors and recorded 277 tackles (181-96-277) for a total of 12.0 tackles per game over his two-year career at Chaminade. Chisom had 166 tackles, 105 unassisted, 9.0 tackles for loss, and 3.0 sacks in his senior year.
