STILLWATER – In the same mode of “dogs living with cats” the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will have a Bedlam quarterback room as head coach Todd Bowles has hired Zac Robinson to be the new play caller for the Bucs. Robinson was the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons for the past two seasons. The Tampa Bay quarterback is former Oklahoma great and Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield. In fact, former OSU quarterback Mason Rudolph, who has used Robinson as a trainer and also as the coach that designed his Pro Day workout, is a friend and rival of Mayfield as the two were the competing Bedlam quarterbacks at the two schools at the same time.

Robinson’s days as Oklahoma State quarterback were earlier as he quarterbacked the Cowboys in record setting fashio from 2006-2009. Robinson went on to a journeyman NFL career and then eventually worked his way back to coaching.

Before joining the Falcons, Robinson started his coaching career as a Los Angeles Rams assistant, working his way up to passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2022 and 2023, working with Mayfield for five games in 2022.

In 2025, the Falcons ranked 14th in total offense and 24th in scoring as they tried to navigate the transition to Michael Penix Jr. as their franchise quarterback. Penix, however, suffered an ACL injury that required reconstruction surgery in November, and Kirk Cousins finished the season for Atlanta at quarterback.

"Zac is one of the bright offensive minds in our game, and during the interview process, I was very impressed with his plan for getting the most out of the talent we have on that side of the ball," Bowles said in a statement. "He has a very good understanding of the strengths of our top offensive players from his time in the division the past two years and I am very confident in his ability to teach and develop our young players."

Todd Monken with the Baltimore Ravens.

In another NFL coaching situation involving a former Oklahoma State fixture, Todd Monken is in a showdown of interviews with Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz for the Browns head coaching job.

Monken has been the long time offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens and former head coach John Harbaugh. The Ravens fired Harbaugh after the team did not make the playoffs this season, a comapigned altered by multiple injuries to MVP quarterback Lamar Jackson. Monken kept the offense together mostly, but the defense struggled in some big games.

Monken, who has been at Tampa Bay and in Cleveland before as an offensive coordinator or position coach has interviewed twice for the Browsn job and is said to be in the mix as recent as late Thursday. he coached at Oklahoma State twice, including as the offensive coordinator for the 2011 Big 12 Championship team. He was an assistant with Les Miles as a receivers coach and he is good friends with Mike Gundy. His son, now at Purdue, was a student coach and graduate assistant for Oklahoma State under Gundy.
