This will mark the second Remember the Ten game for head coach Steve Lutz, who like most newcomers to Stillwater and Cowboy basketball, knew of the crash, but not much more than what people heard on the news. He met with the media on Thursday, and this is what he had to say on what he learned after the first year.
“The biggest thing is just how passionate people are about that terrible day, and not only the families of the people who were lost, but just the people in Stillwater, the people at Oklahoma State, specifically the athletics department,” Lutz said. “But then, you know, nobody can ever replace them, right. But what we can do is we can always remember them, and they’ll never be forgotten, and we can always honor them, and no one has stopped short in doing that.
“I think that every year we’ve continued to do it to the highest level that we can, and we’ve kind of tried to do more and more each year, that’s what you do in situations like this. It’s a big testament to just how good of people we have around here and how committed they are to never forgetting these ten.”
The Cowboys will have a great opportunity on Saturday to honor the Ten when they host the No. 9 Cyclones. And a stat of note, the Cowboys have had a lot of success in this game, having won five-straight, eight of nine and 17-7 overall.
The Cowboys are coming off a disappointing 68-65 loss to TCU, while the Cyclones blew out UCF 87-57 this past Tuesday.
This is the second game in the past two weeks between these teams, with ISU taking the first one 83-71 up in Ames, with Parsa Fallah points a 21-point, 11-rebound double-double, with Anthony Roy putting up 19 points with five 3-pointers.
This game will certainly be a challenge for the Pokes. The Cyclones are averaging nearly 76 points per game in conference play on 45% shooting from the floor and 39% from 3-point range, while outrebounding opponents 37 to 34.
Milan Momcilovic is their leading scorer with nearly 19 points per game on 53% shooting from the floor and 54% from 3-point range. He dropped 18 points on the Pokes on 60% shooting last time out.
Tipoff for the game is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT and will be streamed on Peacock, with a simulcast taking place on the NBC Sports Network. As of right now, the threat of potential weather hasn’t altered the game, but we’ll be sure and post an update on Pokes Report if that were to happen.
