TULSA – It was near perfect on Friday morning as Oklahoma State wrestling wrapped up the first session of the 2026 Big 12 Wrestling Championship in first place. The Cowboys advanced nine wrestlers to Friday night's semifinal round and one to Friday night's consolation rounds. Oklahoma State collected 17 wins in the first session and 12 of those were by bonus margins with one fall (Zack Ryder in the round of 16), five tech falls (two each by 133 pound Jax Forrest and heavyweight Konner Doucet, and six major decisions.

The Cowboys, who have more semifinalists than any other team and those bonus points helped tally 89.5 team points and lead second-place Iowa State by six points.

“I think it’s been pretty good,” coach David Taylor said. “Our guys are chasing bonus points when they can get them and finishing matches on top, and that’s all you can ask from them, so I think they’ve done a good job.”

Oklahoma State’s semifinalists include Troy Spratley at 125 pounds, Jax Forrest at 133 pounds, Sergio Vega at 141 pounds, Casey Swiderski at 149 pounds, Landon Robideau at 157 pounds, LaDarion Lockett at 165 pounds, Alex Facundo at 174 pounds, Cody Merrill at 197 pounds and Konner Doucet at heavyweight.

Big 12 Conference
Troy Spratley had a pair of major decisions to advance to the semifinals Friday night.

Spratley, Forrest, Vega and Doucet contributed the most team points in the first two rounds, as Forrest and Doucet each collected a pair of technical falls and Spratley and Vega each collected a pair of major decisions.

Forrest had one of the most dominant opening sessions of any wrestler in the tournament, as both of his technical fall wins ended before the end of the first period.

The Pokes 184-pounder Zack Ryder collected the lone Cowboy fall in the first session, pinning Cal Baptist’s David Alonso in 3:28. He put up a hard fight in his quarterfinal match despite suffering an injury, but dropped a decision to move into Friday night’s second consolation round.

The results paired with the allocations the NCAA has give to the Big 12 at each weight virtually guarantee the Cowboys nine or possibly a complete team of 10 wrestlers in Cleveland, Ohio at the NCAA Championships. All of the wrestlers through to the semifinals should be in. Ryder at 184 pounds needs to keep going in the consolations as there are eight spots for the Big 12 at that weight. Ryder’s shoulder injury would appear to be the biggest obstacle.

All 10 Cowboys compete Friday night in the second session of the 2026 Big 12 Wrestling Championship, with the first bout set for 5 p.m. CT.
