STILLWATER – Another former Oklahoma State standout is set to make his Major League debut. On Monday, the New York Mets announced the promotion of outfielder Carson Benge, who will get his first MLB start on Opening Day.
Benge joins starting pitcher Nolan McLean, who joined the roster last summer.
And his MLB mettle will definitely be tested as the Mets open the season at home against the Pittsburgh Pirates and the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner Paul Skenes on Thursday, March 26.
Benge was drafted by the Mets with the 19th overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft and has steadily climbed the ladder. He’s had an incredible spring with the Mets, slashing .366/.435/.874 across 41 at-bats, which includes five runs and five RBIs.
There was no doubt Benge was going to make it to New York, it was just a matter of when. Across his 131 minor league games, Benge was slashed .280/.289/.468 with 17 home runs and 25 stolen bases.
He enters the upcoming season as the Mets’ No. 2 overall prospect and the No. 5 overall outfield prospect.
