Oklahoma State Makes the Cut for Georgia Transfer Guard

STILLWATER – Tell me if you’ve heard this before, Oklahoma State is in the running to land a transfer player. Mike Boynton and Co. have been quite active in the transfer portal this spring looking for a big man and a guard and it was reported yesterday they’re in on another one.

According to Jeff Goodman, Georgia transfer guard Sahvir Wheeler is now down to 10 schools: Oklahoma State, Gonzaga, Kansas, Kentucky, LSU, Michigan, Oregon State, Texas, Stanford and Wichita State.

Goodman also stated in the tweet Wheeler “wants to go somewhere where he can play in the Final Four.”

This past season for Georgia, Wheeler was really solid. He averaged 14.0 points on 39.9% shooting, 3.8 rebounds, 8.4 assists and 1.7 steals per game. However, his turnover average rose from his freshman season from 2.9 to 4.4 a game, certainly a number that will need to go down wherever he lands.

Boynton and Co. lost two guards from last year’s squad, Cade Cunningham to the NBA and Ferron Flavors Jr. to the transfer portal. Super senior guard Bryce Williams has yet to announce whether or not he’ll be returning for an extra year, so it’s important Boynton and Co. land at least one more guard in the spring signing class.

Two former top targets for the Cowboys recently became available, Kansas guard Bryce Thompson entered the transfer portal and 2021 Heritage Hall guard Trey Alexander requested and was released from his LOI to Auburn. So, keep an eye on those two moving forward as well.

The Pokes landed Syracuse transfer forward Woody Newton 11 days ago, which filled one of three available spots. There are currently two spots to fill, but the NCAA has yet to announce its ruling on Oklahoma State’s appeal of the punishment passed down in June 2020, which included a reduction of three scholarships of three years.
