STILLWATER – Nobody should find it that shocking that Oklahoma State had 22 points in the preseason 2026 US-LBM Preseason Coaches Poll. If you perused the college football preview magazines this summer you saw new head coach Eric Morris and the Pokes get some love. Heck, ESPN college football analytics guru Bill Connelly had Oklahoma State as his sleeper pick for the College Football Playoff. The preseason poll always has a foundation of good teams like Ohio State, Oregon, Notre Dame, Georgia, and defending national champion Indiana, but the bottom half of the poll and the teams in receiving votes are always a little like throwing darts or taking a whack at a pinata. There is nothing certain about it.

To be honest, my first look at a preseason football poll, coaches or Associated Press or the FWAA Super 16, which I vote on; is to look over the list of voters and see who is on the board.

The Board of Coaches for the US-LBM Coaches Poll in USA Today includes Oklahoma State’s Eric Morris. He is one of nine voters from the Big 12 that also includes Baylor’s Dave Aranda, Sonny Dykes of TCU, Houston’s Willie Fritz, UCF head coach Scott Frost, Collin Klein of K-State, Texas Tech’s Joey McGuire, Rich Rodriguez of WVU, and Utah’s Morgan Scalley. The SEC has eight voters including Kirby Smart of Georgia and Kalen DeBoer of Alabama. The Big Ten has seven voters including new Michigan coach Kyle Whittingham, Indiana CFP winning head coach Curt Cignetti, and Ohio State’s Ryan Day. Other interesting coaches on the board include Tulsa’s Tre Lamb, North Texas head coach Neal Brown, and Army’s Jeff Monken.

Here is the preseason poll:
